On May 6–7, the Federal Reserve held its third policy meeting of the year. Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced that interest rates will remain unchanged, holding steady at 4.25% to 4.50%.
Tensions have surfaced between the Fed and the White House, with the President urging a rate cut to help ease financial pressures. Powell, however, remains cautious, citing broader macroeconomic factors as reasons to stay the course for now. While inflation has continued its downward trend, falling from 2.82% in February to 2.39% in March, the Fed appears focused on ensuring the decline is sustainable
By holding rates steady, the Fed keeps its options open. If economic indicators continue to improve, the door remains open for a possible rate cut later this year. In the meantime, market analysts are adjusting their outlooks and watching closely for any signals on the Fed’s next move.
